After the necessary repairs were done, the final solution was to build an overhang. The finished roof, complete with shingles, gutters, soffit and recessed lighting, looks amazing. And with design elements that mimic features of the existing house, one would never know it was not part of the original structure.

Another large project was the total replacement of a poorly built enclosed balcony/solarium. We had looked into replacing the large windows as the room was freezing in winter and boiling in summer. The roof had leaked for decades and was patched over and over. Upon investigation, we discovered extensive structural rot, zero insulation and general poor construction. Marcello suggested replacing the entire structure, to which we immediately agreed.

His design included a proper weight bearing roof which allowed us to have a huge roof-top deck off the upstairs bedrooms. The floor was levelled to the height of the adjoining rooms and hardwood floors seamlessly connect the two spaces. The new room is now a fully useable extension of the house rather than a roughly enclosed exterior “porch”, as it seemed before. 

We are extremely pleased with the final product and look forward to tackling a few more projects with Marcello and his team!

Cornerstone Interiors was referred to me by a friend. Marcello and his crew performed renovations in our English Tutor home. The work consisted of knocking out a wall, installing a pocket door to the den and French doors to the solarium, changing the door mouldings throughout the approximately 3,000 sq. ft. house, overseeing the installing of oak hardwood floors and then adding the floor mouldings.We were happy with his work and would highly recommend him.  He's s gifted carpenter and very personable.
