In 2015, Chantal was awaded the Légion d'Honneur, the highest decoration in France, for her 28 years of cultural contribution to the nation. Born in Pointe-à-Pître, she made her first steps in traditional dance with a Guadeloupean troup at 6 years old and been part of many companies since (Montalvo-Hervieu, Contemporary Ballet of Belgium or with Raphaëlle Delaunay in the piece Bitter Sugar).
In 1995 she created Difé Kako, her own company and collaborated with such choreographers as Assaï Samba or Lolita Babindamana (DR Congo National Ballet and Lemba Ballet Theatre), Congolese singer Tchico Tchikaya, Zairian singer Kanda Bongo Man, as well as choreographers Georges Momboye, José Montalvo, Dominique Hervieu, Jean Deschamps or Macha Makeieff.
Her most famous solo work solo "She's called Venus", is a tribute to Sarah Baartman, known to most as the Hottentot Venus and we are very honoroued to have her at BATUKE! for the first time. She will be teaching workshops on Saturday and Sunday as well as participating to the carnival on Monday!
